Yay, it’s springtime in the garden! This means there's a lot going on and it also means there's a lot to get done! I’ve put together some tips to help you get out from under that To-Do list and make sure you have an enjoyable, gratifying and inspiring season. Let’s do this!
Tip#1 Turn Off Your Phone
Turn off that phone already so you can get some sh#t done! I know with all that emailing and metrics checking, it can really feel like you’re moving and shaking, but in reality 90% of it is probably just a waste of time when you really should be FOCUSING. When you’ve finally made the commitment to go out to do some spring clean-up, pruning or mulching etc, leave your phone inside so you’re not constantly distracted. Smell the defrosted soil, hear the birds and spring peepers, maybe even work up a sweat. Designate time to take photos for social media afterwards when you’re beautiful work is completed!
Tip#2 Schedule Out Your Week
Even after you’ve written your mammoth To-Do list, it’s just rattling around in that brain of yours until you give it somewhere to land. Go the extra step and put down each item on your calendar for when it’s going to get completed. If I’m stressing out about something really big that needs to be done by the weekend, and it’s only Monday, I can look at my calendar and know I’m going to get it done Thursday night and I can basically put it out of my mind- and again, FOCUS on what I’m doing in that moment.
Tip#3 Take Some Time for Yourself
But Mira, there are only 24 hours in a day and I’m already using 23.25 of them! It may sound counter-intuitive to all this time maximizing business, but I’m serious, Take Some Time for Yourself. It’s so easy to let ‘Super Busy’ become ‘Overwhelm’ and this is an unsustainable state of being. In your weekly schedule, plan at least ONE thing for yourself. For me it is Saturday morning Yoga (and even this is sometimes really hard to manage in my schedule) but I always feel 150,000% better after I go, and I can show up for my family and work with divine energy and exuberance. For you, maybe it is working out, taking the long way through the park, wandering through your local nursery or anything else that lets your motor slow down. You know what you need.
Tip#4 Eat Well
When you’re Super Busy, this is usually the time when we let our healthy eating habits slide, and it’s easy to eat constant junk just to stay afloat, but in fact, this is really the time when we need to ramp our habits up. Make every snack or meal an opportunity to make positive deposits to your body, not negative ones. Make it easy for yourself to do. Plan out your meals ahead of time and make a shopping list accordingly. This is similar to scheduling your week ahead of time and makes the default setting of “let’s just order pepperoni pizza for dinner” less likely to happen.
(I've recently started doing this and it really works: I ordered a new inspiring cookbook, picked some easy recipes, made a shopping list accordingly, and voila, a week of healthy dinners. Meal planning- what a concept!!)
Also have healthy snacks on hand when you are away from home so you’re not tempted to buy or eat someone else’s crappy stuff. Everyone always recommends this- but really do it and you’ll be thankful! And if you do need to buy food when you are out, really treat yourself- to the healthy option! Get the real fruit smoothie or veggie juice, get that amazing salad/sandwich etc. You deserve it.
Tip#5 Support Your Support System
Always continue to Build and Grow your Support System, that way, you can be strong and productive enough to support them.
